Yesterday saw the start of a civil case against BitTorrent tracker Mininova brought by Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN. The latter’s lawyer claimed that the site has more than five million daily users, and that 92% of the torrents on the site point to illegal content. BREIN wants Mininova to install filtering tools to screen out copyright-infringing content. In reply, Mininova’s attorney stressed that the site has tools for rights-owners to report illegal torrents, and that the site has spent €250,000 reviewing more than 155,000 takedown requests so far. A verdict in the case is due on 15 July.
