Here’s something interesting from another industry: broadcasting. Turner Networks recently integrated Facebook, MySpace and Twitter into its websites for the NBA Eastern Conference Finals and the Pocono 500 NASCAR race. It let fans login to their preferred social network from the sites and chat about the live video stream on the same page. It used a widget from Gigya to do it. Apparently most people chose to use Facebook, although MySpace users messaged more. Anyway, it’s not hard to see how this kind of widget could work well on music sites, whether live video webcasts or static artist sites. The key, though, is extending the fan chatter to those big social networks, rather than keeping it all to yourself.
