Remember the Mos Def Music Tee we reported on last week? The one where fans buy a t-shirt and get the digital album via a codetag? Well, it seems claims that sales would be counted by chart-compiler Nielsen Soundscan were wide of the mark.”Nielsen Soundscan knows nothing about this and without knowing more, we have no intention of counting units triggered by the sale of a t-shirt,” says a statement from the company. The firm selling the t-shirts has responded by saying sales will be reported back to Mos Def’s label, who will then report them to Soundscan.Which reminds us, this isn’t the first example of a t-shirt that comes with music. It’s been brought to our attention that UMG subsidiary Lost Highway did a similar thing with Ryan Adams’ Easy Tiger album back in 2007, through a deal with HMV in the UK.
Mos Def’s digital music t-shirt may not count for chart sales
