Save Spotify is a website that's promising to help people “record and save the music streams from any streaming source, including the award winning Spotify”.The software being plugged is free, and the site goes on: “If you would like the option to keep the tracks you hear forever, with the ability to save them to your mp3 player or personal computer then download the free add-on software from Save Spotify.”Hmm. A bit of investigation reveals that what users are being asked to download isn't a new piece of software, but an existing app – AVS Audio Recorder – which can record audio data from various PC applications. The fact that it's being advertised now for its Spotify-ripping capabilities is likely to raise hackles not only at Spotify, but at its label partners.
