UK consumer watchdog Consumer Focus has joined the debate around illegal file-sharing with the slightly puzzling claim that copyright licensing reform is the secret ingredient. It’s issued a statement claiming that “The UK”s copyright licensing system does not support the growth of legal alternatives to illegal file sharing such as streaming, “all you can eat”, micropayment, advertisement or subscription based models.” Really? There is no shortage of such services in the UK, and while there are barriers to their growth, few within the industry would peg copyright issues as particularly important among them.
