UK broadcaster Channel 4′s commissioning editor of education Alice Taylor is wading into the debate over illegal file-sharing, with the publication of an essay promoting access to music over traditional models of buying it. “We must not let these dying behemoths take away someone’s internet access – and connection to the world – for some accusatory, unprovable ”piracy” claim, ever,” she writes, while also claiming UK Music boss Feargal Sharkey is a “copyright maximalist”. The essay has been commissioned by Perspectives, a website funded by the Scottish Government to debate creative issues.
