Kik is an intriguing new music app, which lets users search for songs, then stream them for free three times, before deciding whether to buy the MP3s for $0.99. A Spotify-esque $9.99-a-month subscription option will also be offered to give users unlimited plays, and there’s also an ad-supported option, with pre-roll ads for songs once users have had their three free plays. Labels are backing the app to the extent that the dealmaking process is taking a couple of months only. It’s due to launch early next year.
