Last.fm has announced that it’s canning its on-demand music streaming service to focus entirely on discovery and scrobbling. Instead of providing full tracks or videos, the site will now offer links to tracks on partner services, who at launch include Spotify, MOG, Hype Machine, we7 and Vevo. “Consistent with how people have used Last.fm since the early days, engagement with features like user profiles and personalised radio stations has remained much higher than usage of on-demand playback,” says a blog post. “We feel strongly that we can better fulfill our core mission by instead connecting our users to services in the ecosystem that, unlike us, focus primarily on a jukebox-in-the-sky streaming experience.”
