Irish industry body IRMA is already working with one local ISP, Eircom, on a graduated response regime to tackle piracy. Now it’s extending its focus to mobile broadband providers, with lawsuits against operators O2 and 3 Ireland trying to force them to implement similar systems. The Irish Times claims IRMA is also in negotiations with rival operators Vodafone and Meteor. It seems O2 and 3 are more resistant to the idea – hence the lawsuits. “O2 is currently reviewing the issue, but does not believe it is legally liable in relation to illegal filesharing activities that any of its customers might seek to engage in,” says a statement from O2.
