ABI Research has predicted that mobile app downloads will be just under six billion this year, up from 2.4 billion last year. The company thinks iPhone will continue to take the lion’s share at more than 3.3 billion downloads this year, while predicting that Android will rack up 800 million downloads in 2010. ABI also thinks revenues from sales of apps will start to decline by 2012, as the price of paid apps comes down, and more apps go free and ad-supported.
