The latest musician to give their views on the impact of the internet is John Mellencamp, and it's fair to say he's not a big fan. “I think the Internet is the most dangerous thing invented since the atomic bomb. It's destroyed the music business. It's going to destroy the movie business.” He has a particular beef with the sound quality of music downloads, although he uses the example of listening to the Beatles on an iPod to illustrate his point: “You could tell it was those guys singing, but the warmth and quality of what the artist intended for us to hear was so vastly different.” Not that the Beatles are available in download form, but he's not the first artist to make the sound quality point.
