There’s a lot of chatter on the web today about Apple preparing to sell higher-quality music downloads on its iTunes Store. However, trace the stories back, and you find the claim comes from Interscope-Geffen-A&M boss Jimmy Iovine, who’s been calling for such a move for a while. “We’ve gone back now at Universal, and we’re changing our pipes to 24 bit. And Apple has been great,” he says. “We’re working with them and other digital services — download services — to change to 24 bit. And some of their electronic devices are going to be changed as well. So we have a long road ahead of us.” Iovine’s comments come after Radiohead’s new album The King Of Limbs was sold in a choice of MP3 or WAV files, with the latter costing more.
