Amazon’s music team made it abundantly clear in a letter to labels a few days ago that they’re not looking for licences for the company’s new cloud music service. Well, at least not until they add extra features that will require… licences! With that in mind, check Reuters’ report on Amazon’s plans to sit down with label executives today to discuss potential deals. The meetings are likely to be somewhat tense – less because of the pure question of whether the current locker service requires a licence, and more because of the way in which Amazon launched it with the minimum of consultation with rightsholders. What’s not mentioned in Reuters’ piece are publishers, whose co-operation will also be required for the features that Amazon hopes to add to its service in the coming months.
