This week will see a New York jury decide how much Lime Wire and its founder Mark Gorton will have to pay in damages to major labels, having lost its copyright infringement lawsuit last year. With the RIAA seeking damages for 9,715 albums, the jury could set any amount between $750 and $150,000 per work – a potential bill of between $7.2 million and $1.4 billion. While Lime Wire has already shut down its P2P business, expect plenty of attention to be focused on Gorton’s assets once the damages bill is set. CNET has a reminder of some of the big numbers around Lime Wire: 150 million downloads of its P2P client, and reported annual revenues of $20 million back in 2006.
