The latest company setting its sights on the digital sheet-music market is Yamaha, with a new iPad app called NoteStar.

The free app promises “hands-free, smooth-flowing, easy to read digital sheet music and real audio backing tracks”, with mixing tools to isolate individual keyboard tracks and adjust the tempo.

There’s an in-app store to buy the sheet music and backing tracks, with featured artists including Adele, Lady Gaga, Elton John, The Beatles and Radiohead, judging by the screenshot of the store – which bears a distinct resemblance to Apple’s main iTunes store.

$3.99 seems to be the standard price per song, at least for those featured tracks.
