Songkick is the latest company to give some figures on how its Spotify app is performing. The company says that it has signed up more than 100k new users since launching on Spotify’s platform in late November 2011.
Songkick adds that “millions” of personalised alerts have been sent via email to these new users about bands playing in their neighbourhoods, with 50k different concerts and festivals sent so far.
“This is great news for bands,” says Songkick CEO Ian Hogarth. “With your music on Spotify and your concerts on Songkick, we’ll help get more fans to your shows wherever you are touring.”
That will be music to Spotify’s ears as it tries to ensure more artists don’t withhold their albums from its service. For all the talk of streaming payout numbers, if something like Songkick can gain traction on its apps platform, it will start to show how Spotify can drive other revenue streams for artists too.
Today’s news follows Songkick’s recent £6.3m funding round led by Sequoia Capital. The Songkick website currently attracts 5m monthly unique visitors, although the company also has an iPhone app.
