Former White Stripe Jack White is the latest artist to have his album streamable on Apple’s iTunes Store in advance of its release. Blunderbuss is getting a homepage promotion taking fans to a page to “Listen Now” to the album as one single stream (rather than separate tracks). Anyone pre-ordering the album for £7.99 gets a download of White’s Sixteen Saltines track immediately. White follows previous streams on iTunes like Red Hot Chili Peppers (Bulletin, 23-Aug-11) and Nickelback – the latter’s album was available in November for a week leading up to its release. Apple’s move into pre-release album streams has come alongside the company’s encouragement – we picked that word carefully – of labels not to offer such exclusives to streaming services like Spotify and Rhapsody.
