Spotify is doubling down on its New York office, and not just for marketing and sales. The streaming service announced yesterday that it’ll be hiring 130 engineers in the Big Apple by the end of 2014 to work across its products, making New York a significant development hub alongside Spotify’s Swedish headquarters. New York’s mayor Michael Bloomberg turned up for the announcement, which included news that Spotify is moving to a bigger office in his city later this year. Engadget’s report notes that Spotify’s US boss Ken Parks said at the launch event that there’ll be a space set aside in the new office to “create unique content” too. That’s not a huge surprise: Spotify has been getting artists in to record live sessions for a while now in its offices around the world. However, a beefed-up studio could see the company step up its efforts on this score to record (and perhaps film?) sessions to get itself more exclusive material from artists passing through.
