The costs involved in the acquisition of EMI have been blamed for a decline in earnings at Universal Music Group in the first half of the year. Sales were up 16.3% to €2.24bn but earnings before interest, taxes and amortisation fell 8.3% to €143m. Digital music earnings accounted for over half (53%) of all recorded music income. This time last year digital accounted for 47% of all recorded music income.
