Facebook is now allowing advertisers to use videos in their ads within its mobile apps. The new feature is focused on ads for other apps – an increasingly lucrative part of Facebook’s mobile advertising business. “Now you can use video creative in your mobile app ad aimed at driving installs to bring your app to life in Facebook’s mobile News Feed,” explained Facebook in a blog post yesterday. “Potential customers will be able to click play to watch a video featuring your mobile app before installing the app.” The company claims that one of its first testers for the new feature, DoubleDown Casino, saw “increased install rates and decreased costs per install” when using the video ads. Expect the traditional backlash from users who start seeing video ads in their news feeds, but for now this is focused on app-ads that have to be tapped on to play the videos, so it’s relatively non-intrusive.
