Mobile operator Vodafone UK hase announced a mileston for its faster 4G network: it already has 400,000 subscribers signed up for its Red 4G plans, six months after it launched. That’s slightly quicker than rival EE reached the same level, although the interest here for the music industry is the fact that all Vodafone’s subscribers got the choice between a Spotify Premium subscription or Sky Sports Mobile TV bundled into their monthly contract when signing up. Vodafone has never provided figures for how many people choose one or the other, but label sources tell Music Ally that Spotify has been the more popular of the two options – meaning that Vodafone’s 4G growth is likely to be boosting its numbers in the UK considerably. Vodafone did say yesterday that its 4G customers are “using on average twice as much data as those on 3G, with those signed up to Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile TV using even more”.
