Good news for Paul McCartney fans with 3D printers – admittedly, rather a niche demographic. The star has published an official 3D-printable figurine file on his website, using a 3D scan taken during the process of making his ‘Hope for the Future’ video last year. “

The thinking here is that in the coming years we will all begin to see 3D printed objects appearing in our daily lives creating items such as machine parts, bone and limb replacements, clothing and even food,” explained an enthusiastic post on McCartney’s website accompanying the 50MB file. McCartney is following in the footsteps of Linkin Park, who got themselves scanned last year – albeit in order to sell $295 figurines rather than make them freely printable by fans.
