Plenty of Spotify news today: the company announced its latest mini-milestone yesterday. Its PlayStation Music app has now been downloaded more than 5m times by Sony-powered gamers, which Spotify reckons makes it “the quickest launch adoption rate in PlayStation history”. The company had more numbers to share as well: “Since launch in March, you’ve streamed over 785 million tracks on your PlayStation 4 consoles,” it explained.

“That’s more than 42 million hours of listening to your favourite tunes whilst playing your favourite games”. Be wary of dividing tracks by app downloads to get an average: the app is also available for PS3, which doesn’t appear to be included in the tracks-streamed statistic. Here’s some different maths though: 785m tracks means that in theory, PlayStation Music on PS4 has generated payouts of around $5.65m for music rightsholders. Small in comparison to Spotify’s overall payments, which were $300m in the first quarter of 2015, but still an encouraging start.
