January 4, 2017:Now BMI has fallen out with the RMLC over radio royalties

The Radio Music Licensing Committee (RMLC) ended 2016 in a dispute with Irving Azoff’s Global Music Rights (GMR) over the royalties paid by the 10,000 US radio stations that it represents.

It’s now beginning 2017 with a separate row with performance-rights organisation BMI over the terms of a five-year licensing deal due to cover the years 2017-2021. “The RMLC has proposed an interim rate well below BMI’s previous deal, the effect of which would have a significant impact on the royalties BMI pays to its songwriters, composers and music publishers,” said BMI in a statement.
