Apple is making its latest move in personalised playlists, with the rollout of a new one called ‘My Chill Mix’.
“A small number of test users got the new playlist yesterday evening,” reported TechCrunch. “An updated Chill playlist will be delivered every Sunday to users who join the test group, which will roll out through the summer.”
The playlist will focus on the relaxed end of the musical spectrum, but based on the genres and artists that an individual user has been listening to.
TechCrunch suggests that Apple Music is using “a base layer of editorial curation” for My Chill Mix, rather than purely algorithms.
The playlist joins ‘My Favourites Mix’ and ‘My New Music Mix’ on Apple’s personalised roster, which is going head-to-head with Spotify’s Discover Weekly, Release Radar and its Daily Mix feature.
My Chill Mix is one of the first examples focusing on a specific genre/mood, although many Spotify users will have found at least one of their Daily Mix playlists is fairly chilled.
