Fresh from the pre-Christmas news of its first licensing deal, with Universal Music, Facebook has continued to build out its music team, with former Googlers looming large.
Among Facebook’s latest hires: Joe Bognanno, former manager of music content partnerships at Google and also director of royalties at SoundCloud, who is now Facebook’s commercial music publishing partnerships manager.
Leonard Chen, former director and head of platform and content partnerships at SoundHound, is now working on music product business development at Facebook.
Meanwhile, Marion Koenig, former manager of music publishing partnerships EMEA for YouTube and Google Play, is now Facebook’s music publishing business development manager for North America.
Chen’s appointment is particularly interesting: he led all content and platform partnerships for SoundHound’s Houndify technology – its equivalent to Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. If Facebook has any plans for music and smart speakers, that experience will certainly come in handy…
