Intel searching for stars

Chip company Intel (that’s ‘hip’ with a C kids!) is sponsoring a UK search for new music talent with the launch of a media venture called Intel Studio on April 30. Nokia ‘Comes With Music’ could cost dear

Executive reshuffles at Nokia suggest the company may have bitten off more than it can chew with its ‘Comes With Music’ plan. Chinese video-sharing site snags $57m

Tudou, China’s largest video-sharing website has secured $57 million investment from a group of investors including IDG Technology Venture Investment, Granite Global Ventures and General Catalyst Partners. Apple plots aggressive iPhone plan

Apple has contracted current manufacturing partner, Foxconn, to begin production of the next-generation 3G iPhone in May, with a view to ship three million of them in June. Starbucks steps back from Hear Music label

Changes are afoot at Starbucks in relation to its Hear Music label. The coffee chain is stepping back from the day-to-day operations of the label, handing them over to partner Concord Music Group (it’s a 50-50 joint venture). MySpace Application Gallery launches with 1,000+ widgets

MySpace has announced the public launch of its Application Gallery, to take on Facebook’s apps platform. MySpace is launching it with more than 1,000 widgets for users to install on their profiles, including music, video, politics and causes. Chilirec is a TiVo for internet radio stations

Chilirec is based in Sweden, and allows users to listen to hundreds of internet radio stations, and then makes them available for playing back in the browser at any time, or downloading as MP3 files. Apple posts $1bn profit for first quarter

Apple has announced a profit of $1.05 billion for the first quarter of 2008, up from $770 million in the same period last year. This came from revenues of $7.51 billion, up 43% year-on-year. During the quarter, Apple sold more than 1.7 million iPhones and 10.6 million iPods, with the latter representing a 1% increase (more…)
