WMG rejoins Wal-Mart digital store, with DRM-free MP3s
We wrote last month about US retailer Wal-Mart dropping Warner Music Group and Sony BMG from its online store after shifting to a purely DRM-free model. Well, WMG is now back on board, having bitten the bullet and provided its catalogue in the MP3 format. It effectively doubles the number of tracks available through Wal-Mart, and may put pressure on Sony BMG to follow suit. Earlier this year Sony BMG joined other labels on Amazon’s DRM-free MP3 store, so it will be interesting to see whether they see potential in Wal-Mart.
