Sony BMG launches DRM-free US mobile service with Dada

Sony BMG has taken its first step into DRM-free mobile music, with a partnership with Dada Entertainment. Itself a joint venture between the label and Dada USA. The service is subscription-based, with users paying $10 a month for 15 virtual tokens, which can be redeemed for full-tracks, ringtones, wallpapers and games. The DRM-free full-tracks aren’t available over- the- air, but insteadare purchased from Dada’s online store and then sideloaded to the handset. However, Dada says it hopes to offer the tracks over the air soon, as well as offering content from other labels. So far, it’s available to all US operators apart from Verizon Wireless.
