Labels lobbying for Comes With Music style iPhone

An article in the New York Times has been making waves this week, suggesting that Apple wants more music content from labels for its 3G iPhone, which is due to be unveiled next month. This may include more ringtones, ringback tones, and over-the-air full-track downloads. However, the labels are using the negotiations to exert pressure of their own on Apple to introduce variable pricing for music. Meanwhile, the NYT suggests that Universal Music Group is also lobbying Apple to launch a Comes With Music style subscription plan for the 3G iPhone, giving users the right to download unlimited music for no extra cost for a year or more
