Dell to re-enter digital music market with player plus store
Dell tried to take on the iPod with its own MP3 player a few years ago, but it didn’t catch on. Now, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Dell plans to try again, with a new player that could go on sale as early as September. What’s more, there would be iTunes-esque music management software AND a Dell-branded digital music store accompanying it – although presumably there’s a good chance Dell would outsource the running of the latter to an established digital music firm. Taking on iPod and iTunes sounds good, but there’s little evidence to show consumers will trust Dell as a music brand any more than they did before.
