Universal launches ‘Lost Tunes’ digital rarities store

UMG has launched a new digital music store called Lost Tunes in the UK, which focuses on rare and exclusive tracks. Digital firm 7digital is running the store for UMG, and it currently offers a choice of 134 albums from artists like the Walker Brothers, Comsat Angels and Nine Below Zero. 500 more albums will apparently be sold on the store in the next six months, including an exclusive collection of unreleased tracks by UK band The La’s. It’s the latest sign of UMG’s move into DRM-free retail, since all the songs are being made available as 320kbps MP3 files that’ll work on any player. Tracks cost £0.99, while albums can be had for £5.99 and upwards.
