Second Life bluesman scoops real-world record deal

Nashville-based blues artist Von Johin has signed a record deal with Reality Entertainment. Not particularly interesting in itself, but the way he was discovered is. See, Johin made his name playing virtual gigs in his own venue in Second Life, where he was spotted by Reality Entertainment’s scouts. The company says he’ll continue doing that, but that his debut album will be released digitally through iTunes, Amazon and other popular music stores.

Komuso Tokugawa is a much better Second Life Blues Musician. Von Johin is also very enjoyable but he has made a total mess of the Gibson USA presence in Second Life. The Gibson Island build is ragged and completely unprofessional. It is totally unbecoming to such an iconic and regal brand name as Gibson USA. One look at it and you can’t help but feel that Gibson traded a few guitars for what they got in return. It’s a damned shame.

Wow, what’s that comment got to do with this story? Seems KT and VJ are friends, even having played a show together in SL over Ninjam. I doubt they’d like you pitting one another. They are both great and very different, but why even bring him up here, or take this news as a chance to slag on your opinion of that island? Isn’t everything you said just subjective opinion anyway? As for Gibson Island, I like it, but it each his own, right? I think your being a bit dramatic in your opinion, plus ignoring that the island even being there, up to your standards or not, is giving lots of us musicians in SL a shot at a good paid show to play, and some really astounding free high-prim guitars. I’m sure the island is a work-in progress anyway, isn’t everything in SL? So what have you built in SL, and what good have you done for working musicians? Maybe you should give them credit for getting that company to pay attention to SL to begin with, too. Don’t listen to the haters, Von. You done good. :)

There must be another Gibson Island in SL or something, mate, because the one I saw was nicely done. The guitars they are giving away on there are the tits, and I’ve been to several of their live concerts and enjoyed myself. Wish they’d do more in the hours I’m awake, but fortunately I have insomnia. Didn’t your mum teach you not to say mean things?

Dont really see the big thing with this story and Von Johin!?
I mean avatars have been discovered in Second Life and given a real life record deal before. Before Von Johin there was Bara Jonson (avatar name), real life from Sweden. He got signed back in June to Hondo Mesa Records in New York. Also based on gigs in Second Life. I heard hes going to come over here and perfom live in real life in New York under the avatar name Bara Jonson. Im sure that there been others before Jonson too.
