I believe music is a great draw, at least on MySpace. I've read that music playing in the background of a profile page irritates some, but when used well, it lends to the whole experience much as music creates atmosphere in a movie.

Some MySpace members are musicians. Their profiles containing recordings has led me to discovery of artists I possibly would not have known otherwise.
