Flushed with the success of its iPhone app (1.5 million users and counting), music recognition firm Shazam has announced a version for Google’s Android platform.

The first Android handset goes on sale this week, so Shazam is there from day one, just as it was for the iPhone App Store. There are differences though – the biggest being the fact that the Android version (naturally) doesn’t connect to the iTunes Store.

However, it has a similar feature, integrating instead with Amazon’s MP3 Store – itself available as a preloaded Android application. Shazam also links in with MySpace for Android allowing users to “connect with artists”.

That means tagging a song provides a link to the artist’s MySpace profile, allowing the user to add them as a friend (but presumably NOT to listen to music – MySpace’s music features aren’t currently supported on mobile. Shazam isn’t the only music app for Android – yesterday Imeem unveiled its own application for Google’s platform.
