Firebox to sell Datz Music Lounge online
Online gadget retailer Firebox is to start selling the Datz Music Lounge unlimited music download service. The company revealed the news in a press release, saying it’ll be selling the DML product for £99.95, and describing it as “the ultimate gift for classical cats, hip-hoppers and rockers the world over”.
It makes Firebox the first online retailer to sign on to distribute the product, following UK supermarket Sainsbury’s and high-street chains Blockbusters and WHSmiths. We reviewed the service last week, and had criticisms about the breadth of catalogue, but most importantly the fiddly search and navigation functions.
Still, Firebox is a high-profile online retailer, so the deal is likely to help shift some of the 100,000 boxes in the initial DML run – under its licensing terms with labels, it will have to go back to them before getting permission to sell more, as boss Michael Richardson revealed in last week’s Music Ally Report.
