7Digital working with EMI on EMI.com D2C site

UK firm 7Digital is involved with EMI’s new EMI.com D2C website, although neither company is shouting about the partnership. That image on the right is cropped from a screenshot of the results you get from an artist search on EMI.com when there’s no album artwork.

In its place is a familiar logo involving coloured dots. And after racking our brains for a bit, we remembered – it’s 7Digital’s logo. It’s easy to spot on EMI.com once you know, so the company’s involvement is clearly no big secret.

However, neither EMI or 7Digital is talking about it. EMI’s press release announcing the new site only mentioned the site’s designer, Shamsa Rana of Imdad Capital, and digital media agency Perform. Meanwhile, when we contacted 7Digital to ask, their PR representative politely said they’re not commenting on the announcement at present.

Anyway, the partnership isn’t a big surprise, given that 7Digital already runs an MP3 download store for EMI in Australia, which was launched in September. EMI has been upfront about its plans to sell downloads on the new EMI.com site in the future, so presumably 7Digital will be handling that.

Where’s the news here? 7digital runs EMI’s download stores in UK, Belgium, Germany and other territories since 2007.

This isn’t a download store – it’s a whole new D2C thing I think. It’s totally different from a download store. The problem is it’s pretty crappy
