Warner Music Central Europe has announced a deal with European video firm MyVideo, which will see WMG videos distributed through the latter’s sites in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The deal includes music videos, but also interviews, live performances and behind-the-scenes clips. MyVideo users will be able to watch, share and comment on the videos, while also adding them to their playlists.WMG says it plans to use MyVideo for video premieres and exclusives too, while also launching artist pages and “direct-to-consumer online shops” on the site. The wide-ranging deal also allows MyVideo users to use WMG music in the videos that they create and upload.Of course, the context to this deal is WMG pulling its videos off YouTube before Christmas, as licensing negotiations between the two companies stalled. Signing this kind of deal with a rival in Europe may be partly intended to ratchet up the pressure in those talks too. Still, that’s good news for MyVideo, which says it now has videos covering about 80% of the German charts, with more than 12,000 clips available.
