Spotify has more than 1m users in the UK
Ad-supported streaming music service Spotify continues to go from strength to strength – in user numbers at least – with news that it signed up its millionth registered user in the UK this weekend.
According to Brand Republic, nearly 40,000 people are signing up to the service every day, of which 50-60% are in the UK – the first country where anyone can sign up to the free version of the service, rather than requiring an invite from a friend.
The challenge is scaling up ad sales to match this growth in users, while also trying to upsell as many people as possible to the premium version of the service, which costs £9.99 a month. The company recently appointed former Pandora exec Paul Brown as its UK MD.
