Sainsbury’s to sell Hannah Montana ringtones and games
UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has announced a deal with Disney to sell mobile content based around Hannah Montana: The Movie. It’ll be sold as £5.99 gift cards in 600 stores around the UK, which will then let purchasers go online to download ringtones, screensavers and games.
Bringing the mobile content to retail in a tangible product is a great way for the consumer to find the content they are looking for whether they are buying for themselves or as a gift for a fan,” says Disney’s European mobile boss Sunil Gunderia. “The Hannah Montana bundle pack is fantastic value offering fun games and the ability to personalize your phone all at one great price.”
That’s doubtless true, but we wonder how data charges fit into this fantastic value – will kids end up paying extra to download the content on their (likely) pay-as-you-go handsets? Or is Disney doing a sender-pays type data deal with someone like mBlox? We’re finding out.
UPDATE: The terms and conditions on the card explain that data charges AREN’T included: “Downloading the Hannah Montana content will be charged at your standard network rate”. Here’s hoping young Hannah fans don’t get a nasty shock when redeeming their card…
