MySpace axes 30% of US staff: more to go globally
MySpace has announced swingeing cuts in its US operations, with nearly 30% of its staff being laid off, taking the company down from 1,420 employees there to around 1,000.
CEO Owen Van Natta didn’t mince his words in the announcement: “Simply put, our staffing levels were bloated and hindered our ability to be an efficient and nimble team-oriented company,” he says. “Our intent is to return to an environment of innovation that is centered on our user and our product.”
That’s in the US, but what about MySpace’s offices elsewhere in the world? TechCrunch suggests that further layoffs are on the way, with up to 100 staff possibly being laid off globally.
