Rhapsody heading to Vizio HDTVs
Consumer electronics firm Vizio has announced that it’s adding RealNetworks’ Rhapsody streaming music service to its new range of HDTVs, letting customers access Rhapsody’’s seven-million song catalogue from the TV itself.
Vizio is describing it as “the first connected HDTV implementation” of Rhapsody, which is running on Vizio’s own Internet Apps platform. Other apps that will be usable in the TVs include Blockbuster, Twitter and Amazon Video on Demand.
This is an interesting area though, as other TV firms like LG and Samsung are also launching TVs that can run these kinds of web apps. It means TVs could soon be rivalling home audio systems from companies like Sonos as a way to stream music into the home.
