That was quick: Zookz is now down for the count
Antiguan unlimited music service Zookz appears to have failed in its attempt to get US consumers to pay $9.95 a month for unlimited music downloads, without then paying the rightsowners.
“ZookZ website is temporarily not operating due to circumstances beyond our control and we are sorry you can’t get the music and movies you love at this time,” says a message on its homepage. “Due to this interruption, ZookZ is returning all membership fees paid to date by our existing customers. Your business is greatly appreciated and we look forward to getting you the best movies and music again soon.”
The company launched earlier this month citing a 2007 World Trade Organization ruling as its basis for ignoring label and publisher copyrights. However, the Antiguan government issued a statement earlier this week saying it wasn’t backing the company – something which appears to have sealed its fate.
