Qtrax: ”We are nothing if not dogged…”

What’s happening with ad-supported downloads service Qtrax? Well, boss Alan Klepfisz recently wrote a super-long blog post with some details.

It’s pretty emotional stuff, too: he admits that the company has chucked out several versions of its software, gone through “two sets of expensive licenses with the music industry”, and suffered the “spectacular international humiliation” of its aborted launch last year.

He also says lack of cash has delayed the service’s relaunch, but that the date will be announced imminently on the back of new funding. “We are nothing if not dogged. And stubborn. And determined,” he writes.

What’s not mentioned are any of the lawsuits faced by Qtrax in recent months (as originally highlighted on Wayne Rosso’s blog, with a new one filed on 21 July). Of course, Rosso has since started helping The Pirate Bay’s prospective new owners Global Gaming Factory X with business development – meaning the rivalry between the all-new TPB and Qtrax could see a few sparks flying.

Qtrax is a joke. They’ve missed almost every deadline that they’ve announced, and overpromised on everything including payments to their creditors. You need to look no further than their corporate update and the numerous court filings to see the major problems with Qtrax and BLLN.

  4. Wayne Rosso Says:

Actually, I really could care less about Qtrax per se. I am just constantly amused by what this Klepfisz gets away with! I haven’t commented on Qtrax in quite a while and really have nothing to say. But you have to admit that it takes a huge set of testicles to bounce a $1.8 mm check on Oracle!

  5. Wayne Rosso Says:

    PS

Hi Jessica. You’re one sharp cookie.

  6. The Insider Says:

What’s even worse is that a lot of these digital companies still tryin 2 do deals with them and the request of their clients who don’t have a clue. Peeped Q Trax at Midem where they spent 250K 4 LL Cool J and 650K for Don Henley 2 perform at their events. They are easily top 3 worst Midem debuts EVER. Grand Opening/Grand Closing. Bouncin a 1.8 million dollar check?? Dude is a cut 4 that one LOL!

  7. luckybleu Says:

You know whats a joke too…?Mashboxx was going to revolutionize the music industry, but you know whats even funnier?Wayne Rosso trying to legitimize, and monetize,The Pirate Bay.(laughing out loud)Don’t your bosses know that by the time this (if ever) is licensed all the users will be long gone, and GGF is paying 7.8 mil for a name? Now thats a JOKE!

  8. free music Says:

I can’t WAIT for Pirate Bay!!!! What’s better than paying $10 or $20 a month for corrupt files and spyware.. or, maybe I can save that $$ by storing those files on MY computer! Awesome! I know this economy has been crazy for start ups. If they wrote an article about every bounced check.. it might get old. I have a feeling there is more behind that bounced check than can be seen with the eye. Seems very curious to me. Oracle worked extremely hard to make a sound infrastructure for Qtrax and, from what I understand, has been extremely enthusiastic about the service. If this thing launches, it will be huge. These other guys trying to get in the mix are on life support and if Q takes off, they have no chance.

  9. Major LAWLZ Says:

Bahahah luckybleu, sorry but you’re the joke dude. Do you ever not to try to shill for you boss (Allan K. of BLLN) on the internet? Seriously, if you’re gonna lie, at least be creative enough to not use the same screenname all over the internet. Dude, if I go to Google and type in your screenname and hit search, I can see every single blog plus your twitter where you try to pimp out Qtrax, only to get shut down every single time. It’s downright laughable. I actually feel sorry for you that you stoop that low to have to personally pimp out Qtrax to try to recoup your investment. Newsflash bro, your money’s gone. Allan took your money and you’re never gonna see it again. Qtrax is dead, and has been ever since their Midem fiasco. There’s a reason why BLLN stock is worth 2 cents, and why the general public hasn’t ever heard of Qtrax. Also, the same reasons as to why SpiralFrog and Ruckus failed apply to QTrax too, and why they’ll inevitably fail too. Now luckybleu, go back and crawl into the hole you came from, ok? No one’s buying into what you’re trying to sell.

P.S. your friend “free music” should take note too. It’s a bad idea to be bouncing checks at all, and I would venture to say any company shouldn’t be bouncing as many checks as BLLN has been over the years. So claiming bouncing a few bad checks is common practice in the business world is just downright a lie. Seriously, go read all the court filings about BLLn’s failure to pay creditors and lenders. It’s amazing Allan hasn’t been put out of business for good and behind bars, although I think his day is coming with the Oracle lawsuit that he’ll soon find himself on the street corner with a cardboard box for a home. Bad idea to stiff a creditor with Oracle’s kind of big pockets. The only thing behind that bounced check is Allan is a big fat liar and never delivers on his promises as usual. Anyone with an ounce of common sense will tell you that if you don’t have the money to pay for something upfront or don’t have the means to make the necessary money by the payment deadline, you shouldn’t be spending then!!

One further note: How are you enjoying your ban from iHub, luckybleu? You’d think you’d learn by now not to launch into personal attacks on other people, especially if you’ve been banned for it before. Or how about how you claim to welcome other opinions on iHub, but only if they agree with yours? You just can’t stand the fact no one mindlessly buys into your rosy vision of Qtrax, and some people actually see it for what it is, a big fat sham. Or how about how you say people are launching personal attacks on Allan K. all the time and how it’s not right, but you discredit yourself completely by pulling the same personal attacks on other people? You’ve lost the game, luckybleu.

I’m always amazed more at people who spend so much time posting about things that they are NOT invested in, more than people posting about things they ARE invested in, like lucky. Obviously anyone typing so many words, on either side, have a vested interest. We know lucky does. What is your interest, LAWLZ? Obviously you do, to spend so much time on the negative.

  12. Major LAWLZ Says:

Heh, it’s called being a troll. Welcome to the internet moron!

  13. Major LAWLZ Says:

P.S. your quote below is an example of a logically flawed argument. You might want to brush up on your logic in the future dude. :P

“I’m always amazed more at people who spend so much time posting about things that they are NOT invested in, more than people posting about things they ARE invested in, like lucky. Obviously anyone typing so many words, on either side, have a vested interest.”

  14. free music Says:

Sorry if that wasn’t clear. My point was that people like you trash people that have invested in a company. Why? What is your strong push and desire that this fails? And “Welcome to the internet moron”? Is that your alias? That’s how it reads, grammatically, idiot. (That was a comma before “idiot”)

  15. Major LAWLZ Says:

Ooo ooo now you’re arguing grammar with me. That’s rich. What a great comeback from you … er, NOT! Is that the best you could come up with for an insult? It sounds like you’re more clueless than anything if you couldn’t understand the intended meaning of my previous comment. I think someone’s getting flustered and it isn’t me!!! BAHAHAH I think you need to grow a thicker skin before posting on internet blogs.

My question is: why does it bother you so much that people trash a company, especially a company that lies constantly? Is it because you can’t handle the truth of the situation?

P.S. You fail at trolling, freemusic, so don’t even try.

  16. Peng Pang Says:

Damn, all this hatred and animosity. Why can’t we all just get along?? I have a dream, a dream that one day all music will be free and legal and that music shall not be judged by the service it was obtained from, but purely, by the content of it’s material.

AAGHH; I’m so clever; did you see what i did there? I took a famous speech by ML King and applied it to the current situation in the digital music world.

Does that make me seem dolallie to you?

I’ll bet not half as dolallie you guys sound arguing on this blog.

  17. luckybleu Says:

I have a passion for music,I don’t want to steal music, and don’t want to pay 99cents a track for downloads.I wanted mashboxx to succeed ,I wanted spiralfrog to succeed, but they didn’t,due to the labels high licensing fees and complex and expensive licesing bodies that exist independently from each other all over the globe. So yes I’m a supporter of Qtrax, the last hope right now of having free legal music,I’ve taken a stance ,call me a troll ,boo hoo my feelings are hurt,so where do you stand? the only conclusion I can draw from your comments is that A) you would rather steal your music or b) you would rather pay 99 cents, and then theres c) you have some other agenda for not wanting a free legal music service to exist.

  18. theamazingflea Says:

luckybleu, you sound like a crackpot. Get lost dude; no one cares about your half-baked theories. :P

  20. Bob-O Says:

Having read luckybleu’s posts in the past, it’s pretty obvious he is the one with the agenda here and not the poster “Major LAWLZ”. I did the Google search that Mr. LAWLZ suggested, and it turned up the same conclusion that Mr. LAWLZ arrived that.

luckybleu is more than just a supporter, he’s an investor in this ill-fated company, Brillant Technologies, and is pretty actively trying to pump up the stock price for his own benefit. Qtrax is certainly not the so-called last hope for free music in the marketplace like he claims, as there are several free alternatives to listen to music like We7, Pandora, and Spotify to name a few. Also, with the abundance of smartphones now, it’s easy to get access to music on the go without needing to download restrictive DRM-laden files like those offered by Qtrax in their US beta version.

Lastly, luckybleu’s entire argument against Mr. LAWLZ’ point of view is predicated on some fabrication that Mr. LAWLZ would prefer to either download his music from pay sites or download the music illegally. I’d be curious to know where he gleamed such information from Mr. LAWLZ comments on this blog as they are nowhere to be found whatsoever in the text. As such, I’m even more inclined to believe in Mr. LAWLZ as he seems to be being more honest than luckybleu is, as luckybleu seems to be inferring opinions on other people which do not actually exist. Mr. LAWLZ may be a troll but at least he is being honest and upfront about his intentions unlike some of the other more pro-Qtrax opinionated individuals on this blog.
