Best Practices in Online Music Promotion
Techdirt has the link to a white paper on online music promotion, focusing on five well-known campaigns: Radiohead’s In Rainbows, Nine Inch Nails’ Ghosts I-IV, Groove Armada’s Bacardi EP, Danger Mouse’s blank CD-R and Mos Def’s t-shirt album. The white paper pulls out some lessons about what to do and what not to do when marketing online. It’’s well worth a read, although we”d quibble with Groove Armada’s campaign being held up as a successful example – as we explained in our recent Report feature on branding and music, the Bacardi deal turned out to be a bit of a flop.

Internet music promotion is a great way to generate extra streams of income for your business and in general. When it’s done incorrectly, it can become a devastating feeling because you put in so much hard work and nothing to show for it. When it’s done correctly, the feeling is the exact opposite and you actually put in less hard work and more smart work to make huge amounts of extra money online.
