Spotify offering cheap Premium subs with Swiftcover

I’ve just received an email from Spotify offering me the chance to sign up for a Premium subscription for £8.99 a month, rather than the usual £9.99.

The email says it’s “thanks to our good friends over at Swiftcover” – the car insurance firm – so it must be a form of sponsorship deal. Which is interesting.

Finding people to subsidise the cost of a premium subscription could drive signups, although cutting a quid off is somewhat less drastic than getting operators like 3 UK to bundle the price into a monthly mobile tariff so it feels free.

I’ve just redeemed that code for a quid off my subscription, without having anything to do with Swiftcover whatsoever. Not bad! Expecting some spam from them, now, though.
