a2f2a site aiming to spark debate on filesharing and digital music
a2f2a? Sounds like a dodgy pr0n site acronym to us! But no, it’s the name of a new blog that aims to connect artists and fans to thrash out the issues around digital music and online piracy.
It’s the work of P2PNet blogger Jon Newton and singer/songwriter Billy Bragg, with a2f2a standing for ‘artists-to-fans-to-artists’.
“Our objective at this forum is to explore with music fans how viable a2f models might work, and to introduce those ideas into the ongoing debate about the new digital music industry,” says Bragg.

This sounds like a great opportunity for people to air their personal opinions about file sharing and the solutions that the government are proposing, especially following Lord Mandelson’s recent “three strikes and you’re out” suggestion and Lily Allen’s vote of appoval:

Believe it or not, it was the Lily Allen “incident” that sparked the conversation, between p2pnet contributors and Billy Bragg, that lead to the launch of a2f2a!
We at p2pnet.net engaged Billy for a while, until both “sides” realized that there was an urgent need for artists and fans to repair the broken relationship caused mostly by the labels and the endless propaganda they fed the public and the artists for some time.
Billy was the first artist to actually approach the filesharing community, take all the abuse we first thought we had to throw at him, and continue to stick around, keep his head, and talk sensibly about things. He also fronted some cash to see a2f2a become a reality!
