Qtrax gets Baidu deal for Chinese launch
Can ad-supported downloads firm Qtrax make a go of it second time round? Having announced plans for its rollout across Asia, the company now has a significant deal to back it up.
Qtrax has partnered with Chinese search engine Baidu with a deal that involves Baidu directing all music-related queries from its portal to Qtrax – if they’re represented in the latter’’s catalogue. It’’s a huge deal for Qtrax, since Baidu is the dominant search engine in China.
It could be pretty big for Baidu too though, as the company has taken some heat – and indeed lawsuits – for its copyright-infringing music links in the past. Google already runs its own ad-supported music download service in China which will compete with the new partnership.
