This B2B angle makes me laugh - Whilst their "business model" is all about targeting "music professionals", they must know that most people are using SoundCloud to share copyrighted music. For that purpose, it is simply fantastic, and they seem to be getting away with it for the time being.

The same can be said for youtube, who now host a user-uploaded version of just about every record ever made. Using the APIs of these services, other companies are knitting it all together, for instance discogs now link directly to the youtube version of every track in their database.

To me this last year has seen the most dramatic and amazing changes in the way I can use the internet for listening to, buying, sharing and publishing music. At this stage, as an end user I have contributed financially to fund discogs (who take a small cut from the seller every time I buy a 2nd hand record), Youtube are starting to make money (by *being* google) but Soundcloud have made no more than the revenue from a few poxy ad impressions from me.

Without being able to identify copyrighted music and embed an ad to purchase the track in the way Google can with youtube, how are they going to survive? I do hope they manage it.
