Sony planning an iTunes killer, mark II
Just under two years since Sony closed its failed digital music store Connect, BusinessWeek is reporting that Sony plans to launch a service likely to “bear some similarities” to iTunes. Currently bearing the tentative and rather functional name of Sony Online Service (why can’t these companies use exciting codenames like Project D.O.O.M?), the internet media store is expected to piggyback on Sony’s Playstation Network (PSN). The PSN boasts 33 million users to whom it sells enough downloadable games, TV shows and movies to bring in an expected USD $500 million this year.
